In today’s fast-paced world, reconnecting with nature can be a simple yet powerful way to improve your well-being.
Over the years, I’ve become not only a firm believer in the healing presence of nature but also a regular practitioner of weaving it into my everyday life.
From cycling through evergreen forests to filling my home with plants and flowers, I’ve learned that surrounding myself with nature is deeply calming and therapeutic.
In this blog, I share 5 easy ways that I use to bring more nature into my daily routine.
Whether you live in a bustling city or a quiet countryside, I hope one or two of these influence you somehow to bring more nature into your daily routine for a healthier, more balanced life.
1. Starting the Morning with Fresh Air, Natural Light and/or End the Day Watching the Sunset

Mornings do set the tone for the day.
I’ve noticed that when I wake up intentionally and follow through with at least three small actions that make me feel accomplished, my day flows better.
One of my favorite rituals is starting the day by sitting by the window and watching nature’s way of revealing the morning.
With a warm cup of coffee in hand and a journal nearby, I feel grounded and ready to face the day with clarity.
This small pause helps me step into wonder before the outside world demands my attention.
And when I can, I indulge in watching how nature turns day into night — a full-circle moment that reminds me of the beauty of both beginnings and endings.
Of course, there are days when I don’t have access to a perfect sunrise or sunset view.
So stepping outside on a porch for a few minutes to soak in the morning air and natural sunlight is another way to welcome the new day.
I’ve also learned the hard way that reaching for my phone first thing leaves me unmotivated.
Instead, greeting the day with sunlight makes a huge difference.
Sunlight boosts serotonin levels, which can enhance your mood and improve focus throughout the day.
💡 Try This:
- Sip your morning tea or coffee by a window or on a balcony.
- Step outside for a few minutes before starting your day.
- If you can, pause at sunset to watch the sky change colors — it’s a grounding, humbling reminder of the bigger picture.
2. Bringing Nature Indoors with Plants and Flowers.

A favourite thing to do!!!
Gardening feels sacred to me, and yes — my dream home is basically a jungle-themed sanctuary.
I feel so much connected to nature when surrounded by plants.
Houseplants don’t just add beauty to your home; they also improve air quality, reduce stress, and create a sense of calm.
Tending to plants can be a mindful, relaxing activity that helps you feel more connected to nature.
And let’s not forget flowers.
Having a vase of fresh flowers on the table adds elegance to a room and serves as a gentle reminder of growth and blooming at one’s own pace.
So yes, I’ll not hesitate to add a plant (or 10!) to every room just so I can reap the benefits of being a plant mama.
💡 Try This:
- Start with easy-to-care-for plants like snake plants, pothos, or succulents.
- Place a vase of fresh flowers in your living room or dining area.
- Create a small herb garden in your kitchen for homegrown ingredients.
3. Moving through Nature

If you have dared to routinely take a walk, have your morning jog or go cycling in nature, you know how uplifting the experience is.
Beyond the pleasure there is, it’s actually good for our bodies.
They say nature is healing and science actually backs this statement up.
Moving in a forested area with Cypress trees, for example, exposes you to phytoncides.
When we humans inhale these compounds, they are thought to boost the immune system by increasing natural killer (NK) cell activity.
Being around trees also reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and improves mood.
Losing calories while healing…… yoooo!!!
When I get the chance to, I’ll not hesitate to go at least once a week to keep me fit and restore my spirit.
💡 Try This:
- Take a walk through a nearby park or green space and notice how you feel.
- Try exercising outdoors instead of in a gym — even stretching on grass counts.
- Bring a journal to jot down your thoughts after moving in nature; it deepens the reflection.
4. Creating a Mini Nature Pause During the Day

While having a job gets you income to pay bills, it can also be a hindrance to your health in a number of ways.
From back issues if you are someone who sits a lot, to burn out if you push through tasks, and constantly stay “on”.
Having an intentional break away from anything work-related can benefit your well being a great deal.
And doing so around something natural, even better!
For me, it’s things like choosing to do absolutely nothing and instead watch how plants sway in the wind.
Listening to nature sounds like birds chirping, ocean waves, or rain.
Walking barefoot and doing so either on sand, sea pebbles or grass.
These moments may seem unproductive, but I’ve learned that over-productivity isn’t true productivity.
I used to think that ticking everything off my to-do list was the only way to be “successful.”
But stepping away — even briefly — often makes me more focused and creative when I return to work.
💡 Try This:
- Step outside for 5 minutes to feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.
- Sit in a spot with a view of trees or the sky during a break.
- Close your eyes and listen to nature sounds — birdsong, rain, or ocean waves — even if through an app, to reset your mind.
5. Eating Mindfully with Seasonal and Natural Foods

The final and perhaps simplest way to connect with nature is through food.
The less processed the food, the better for our bodies.
Choosing natural, whole foods not only nourishes the body but also aligns us with the rhythms of the earth.
Eating colorful fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, and seasonal produce is a reminder of how generous nature is.
In Uganda, for example, we have access to starchy foods like cassava and sweet potatoes, alongside an abundance of vibrant greens and fruits.
Eating fresh, seasonal produce not only supports your health but also connects you to the rhythms of nature.
Every meal is a chance to connect with the cycles of planting, harvesting, and enjoying nature’s gifts.
Eating mindfully — without distractions, and with gratitude — makes this connection even more meaningful.
💡 Try This:
- Visit your local market and buy fresh, seasonal produce.
- Create a nature-inspired dining experience by eating outdoors or setting your table with flowers.
- Practice gratitude before meals — even a silent prayer to say “thank you” to God for providing.
Final Thoughts

Incorporating nature into your daily routine doesn’t require dramatic changes—it’s about making small, intentional choices that reconnect you with the world around you.
Whether it’s soaking up the morning light, tending to plants, moving outdoors, pausing for mindful breaks, or eating seasonal foods, these practices gently shift us back into alignment with nature’s rhythms.
Nature is always waiting for us — in the air we breathe, the meals we eat, the sun that rises and sets each day.
Even the smallest pause outdoors can bring balance, joy, and renewal.
